Dome and salt pad (former Cyrene and Arsenault yard)

Somavrac Inc., warehousemen at Trois-Rivieres Port Autority (TRPA), wishes to realize a project for outdoor and indoor storage of solid bulk.

Outdoor Storage:

The outdoor storage site is existing and actually used to store road salt. It needs to be rebuilt in order to respect the actual Somavrac's standards. The new storage site should prevent rainwater from accumulating under the stored product. By making the appropriate slopes and drainage, good practices for solid bulk storage can be more easily observed. In this way, environmental protection is greatly improved by better management of rainwater by avoiding, as much as possible, the contact of rainwater with the stored product.

Indoor Storage:

Somavrac Inc. wishes to increase its indoor solid bulk storage in order to be able to meet the demand of its clients. To do so, a new dome will be built. This new dome will be 120' (36.5 m) wide by 240' (73 m) long for the storage of solid bulk and, on the last 100 '(30 m), will be 150' (46 m) wide to allow additional space for truck loading.

Loading of trucks for products shipments will be done inside the dome, in the widened section, where there will be a demarcated area for trucks, so that trucks and wheel loaders are separated to avoid entrainment of product outside, greatly reducing the dust emitted into the atmosphere. The loader, whether for receiving or shipping product, will be confined inside the dome to minimize dust and prevent product spreading outward.

This new dome, which will have concrete walls of 10' (3 m) high, will have a total height of approximately 70' (21 m) and will be a white Permodome. This dome will increase the storage capacity (35,000 mt of concentrate or 10,000 mt of light fertilizer); but above all, by its design, will greatly reduce environmental risks. The product received by truck will be unloaded in the warehouse from a ramp, in order to avoid the trucks backing into the warehouse risking the contamination of its tires with the product and then dragging of the product outside.
