Barn Swallow Habitat Construction

This project involves the construction of a barn swallow (Hirundo rustica) habitat structure to compensate for nests being removed from a barn scheduled for demolition. The structure will have artificial nest cups to support barn swallow nesting and breeding. Barn swallows are a species at risk, listed as Threatened under the federal Species at Risk Act (2002). The site has known barn swallow nests and potential for other species at risk and migratory birds and is therefore sensitive to construction activities. Work will be scheduled to occur outside of sensitive timing windows for wildlife.
