Canadian Coast Guard Klemtu Mountain Marine Control Traffic Services Site Upgrade
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Canadian Coast Guard is planning to expand and upgrade the existing Klemtu Mountain Marine Control Traffic Services Site as part of the Oceans Protection Program, which aims to enhance navigational safety in Canadian waters. The project proposes to build a new communications tower, equipment building and a new helipad, additionally the power system onsite is to be upgraded. Vegetation brushing has been completed in locations where existing Coast Guard infrastructure exists and additional brushing will be required for the new infrastructure. There are small amounts of localized excavation required to clear to bedrock for concrete foundations that will be conducted. Once the area is prepped, the new infrastructure will be build along side the existing infrastructure. It is still to be determined if the current equipment building and tower will be decommissioned once the new equipment is operational or if it will remain in use.
