Canadian Coast Guard Hartley Bay Search and Rescue Station - Marine Infrastructure

The Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is in the planning process of developing a new Search and Rescue facility in Hartley Bay, BC. To support operations at this facility, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is proposing the replacement of the aging dock structure with a new floating dock structure. The new Search and Rescue float structure will provide CCG with the means to serve the community by increasing safety and emergency response at sea. The proposed project will provide CCG the infrastructure to improve responsible shipping on Canadian coastlines.

The proposed dock replacement will take place within the same general footprint of the existing dock, along the southwest shore of Hartley Bay, BC.  The proposed activities at the site will involve the installation of two new concrete floats: one to function as a dock and the other to act as a breakwater. Construction of the new floating docks will consist of removal of the existing structure and installation of a pre-fabricated structure. Existing HDPE pipes will be rearranged to form a raft for additional wave deflection. To secure the dock float to the shore and seabed, the construction of the new facility requires the installation of three steel piles; several polysynthetic anchor lines and chains will also be used to secure the breakwater structures in place. No infill is anticipated to be required.
