Kitsumkalum First Nation - Drinking Water System Upgrades

Kitsumkalum First Nation proposes upgrades to the domestic water system (DWS) at I.R. No. 1 located west of the City of Terrace, BC. The work includes developing two new groundwater supply wells (Well 4‑23 and Well 5‑23), installing raw‑water piping to a new water treatment plant (WTP), and constructing a new WTP with chemical pre‑treatment, clarification, filtration, and UV/chlorine disinfection. A new cast‑in‑place concrete water storage reservoir will be built south of the existing reservoirs, along with a transmission main connecting the WTP to the reservoir and distribution piping tying into the existing system.

 

The Project also includes grading and improving access roads to support construction and long‑term operations. Four water‑main creek crossings are required: two culvert replacements at Unnamed Creeks 1 and 2, an open‑cut trench crossing of Eneeksaguilaguaw Creek between the old and new reservoir sites, and a culvert installation with open‑cut trenching at Stream A near Cemetery Road.

 

The Project involves ground disturbance, watercourse crossings, and construction of new water infrastructure, all within the existing community water system footprint.

February 20, 2026 – The authorities issued their Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
