Housing Development: Lot 115, Gitanyow IR 1

Gitanyow is a First Nation community of the Gitksan people located on Gitanyow IR 1 which is situated in northern BC along the Kitwanga River. The goal of the Project is to develop affordable, accessible, and energy efficient housing units in Gitanyow that prioritizes Elder residence and their families. These units are proposed to be built on the municipal address of 1331 and 1335 First Avenue, Lot 115, Gitanyow IR 1, BC (the Site) which is situated approximately 150 m west of the Kitwanga River and 400 m northeast from Kitwancool Creek. This lot is approximately 0.214 hectares in size and is currently vacant. The Site is adjacent to several other residential lots on the north, south, and west. The Site is bound by First Avenue on the east as well as a mix of residential and commercial lots including an established gas station, band office and totem pole monuments. Construction for this project is planned to be initiated in the spring of 2025.
The housing development will include a two-story building that will consist of 14 new units (eight one-bedroom and six two-bedroom apartments).
