Ridley Terminals Expansion Project

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is reviewing an application for a Fisheries Act Authorization (21-HPAC-00814) submitted by Ridley Terminals Inc. (RTI). RTI is proposing to construct and operate a new shipping berth and expand the existing RTI terminal in Prince Rupert, BC for bulk and liquid gas export. The Project will be located on Ridley Island within the lands and waters under the federal jurisdiction of the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA). The components of the project will include construction of a new wharf, vehicle access, widening of the existing trestle, pile driving, and dredging to accommodate a new ship berth.

As part of this review process, Fisheries and Oceans Canada must determine whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. An environmental effects evaluation for the Project was previously carried out under Section 67 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA 2012) by the PRPA and Transport Canada. In making a determination DFO will rely primarily on the completed Section 67 CEAA 2012 evaluation while also expanding on it to include the new requirements of the Impact Assessment Act.

To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.
