Great Bear Advanced Exploration Project

Kinross Gold Corporation is proposing to construct and operate a gold exploration project located 25 kilometres southeast of Red Lake, Ontario. As proposed, the Great Bear Advanced Exploration Project would include a temporary work camp, underground infrastructure, and two surface portals to access the underground infrastructure. The project would operate for four years and extract up to 60,000 tonnes of ore for off-site quality testing.


Latest update

August 8, 2024 — On June 17, 2024, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change received a request to designate the Great Bear Advanced Exploration Project, proposed by Kinross Gold Corporation. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is conducting an analysis and will make a recommendation to the Minister on whether to designate the project under the Impact Assessment Act.
