ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd.: 1088748 Gregoire Lake IR No. 176A Lakeshore Drive Gas Distribution System Extension

ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. proposes to extend its natural gas distribution system at Fort McMurray First Nation's Gregoire Lake IR No. 176A. New infrastructure will include the installation of 215 m of 60mm polyethylene gas distribution line from Lakeshore Drive to multiple locations towards Elder's Way. Gas line will be installed using trenchless horizontal drilling and line trenching, and will take place primarily alongside previously disturbed roadways. A biophysical assessment of the project area and surrounding lands identified nearby valued ecosystems components including wetlands, lake, wildlife (including migratory bird species of management concern and woodland caribou), forested habitat, and potential historical resources. These findings have influenced construction practices and necessitate the use of ATCO-developed environmental work practices. Project planning has included the development of environmental management plans to avoid and mitigate negative environmental impacts, and to monitor construction activities in accordance with plans supported by Fort McMurray First Nation.
