Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Septic & Watermain Upgrade

The main objective of this project is to replace aging septic tanks. Mitigation strategies include; use of portable toilets and longer installations can be done over the weekend when the buildings are closed. A second component is to replace a cast iron water distribution line that has had previous issues of freezing. Mitigation strategy is to keep the old line in service until the new line is in service, health & safety is paramount during construction. The scope of the project is to replace 35 septic systems near the end of their life cycle. The septic systems will be class IV and will treat raw sewage. The septic systems are scattered throughout our community and include 2 band buildings, 1 row housing with 10 units and 32 housing units. The second component is to replace a 300 meter water distribution line and add a fire hydrant. This line services 14 households and 2 commercial buildings. This also includes repaving half the roadway. New septics will offer safer and cleaner water being returned to the land and water within our community and provide an additional quality of service to the occupants. It will provide time to work and build a strategy to ultimately connect to a sanitation treatment facility. It will provide cleaner drinking water and additional support for firefighters with a new hydrant. Training for youth & community members.
