Norah's Pond Expansion

The proposed Norah's Pond Expansion Project (the Project) is located at the Allan Brooks Nature Center (ABNC) on Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and Department of National Defence (DND) owned lands in Vernon, BC. The purpose of the project is to:

  • Increase the biodiversity at the center for educational purposes by adding a new larger pond immediately west of the existing pond; and
  • Infill the existing pond which was constructed outside ECCC property boundaries.

The following physical activities are planned for Summer to Winter 2025:

  • Infill the existing pond;
  • Expand the wetted permitter of the existing pond;
  • Install a floating dock next to the existing dock;
  • Revegetate the area surrounding the new pond with native riparian vegetation; and
  • Reroute the existing gravel path around the expanded pond.

Latest update

August 21, 2025  – Environment and Climate Change Canada and Department of National Defence issued the Notice of Determination and determined that the proposed Norah’s Pond Expansion Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
