Peters First Nation - Fraser River Flood Control Berm

The primary objective of proposed project involves the construction of a 1 km flood control berm along reserve lands (Indian Reserve Number 2) of the Peters First Nation to reduce flood risks to the community and reduce the likelihood of river avulsion across Peters Island (Indian Reserve Number 2 island).  The proposed berm will reduce the frequency and magnitude of flow across Peters First Nation's Reserve Number 2, reducing flood levels and high velocity flow towards the community in Reserve Number 1.  In addition, the berm will reduce the likelihood of avulsion across Reserve Number 2 island towards or potentially isolating Reserve Number 1.

The proposed works include:

  • Construction of a 1 km flood control berm along Peters First Nation's Indian Reserve Number 2
  • Works within 30 m of a waterbody
  • Vegetation clearing
  • Associated earthworks

This project is part of a larger effort to improve flood control measures in the community, which includes: flood and risk assessments, emergency flood protection, design and planning, berm construction, flood proofing of homes, and repair of the existing upstream flow control structure.
