Cargo Carrier Road

Vancouver Airport Authority is proposing to extend an existing airside road/driveway located near Apron 4 and connecting to 3511 and 3611 Jericho Road at the Vancouver International Airport in Richmond B.C. The proposed project will improve efficiency and safety for cargo movements between aircraft and warehouses located on Jericho Road.

The Proposed Project

The project consists of constructing 200m of new road with driveway access to two warehouses. The project will include new security fencing, overhead power lines and lighting. An existing drainage swale will be infilled and a culvert installed for drainage.  Existing vegetation consisting of grass will be removed and the area grubbed prior to infill and placement of sand, gravel and asphalt.

The total project area is approximately 2,000 sqm.

March 16, 2022 – Notice of Determination - The Vancouver Airport Authority has determined that the proposed Cargo Carrier Road is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

The Vancouver Airport Authority is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, the Vancouver Airport Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
