Cape Beale Light Station - Marine Wharf Repairs: Derrick Refurbishment, Concrete Foundation Reconstruction

Cape Beale Light station is one of three staffed light house stations operated by the Canadian Coast Guard in the West Coast Trail unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The derrick landing/wharf at the Cape Beale lightstation is in need of repair and upgrades; the degradation of the concrete structure poses a risk to its users, and its now exposed reinforcing is subject to corrosion in the marine environment. The derrick is used to bring materials and resources, such as building materials, emergency supplies and communication equipment to the lightstation, and is essential to maintain the operation of the station. The objective of this work is to upgrade and extend the life of the current derrick landing and hoist. Potential adverse effects of the project on the marine and intertidal environments and archaeological resources require assessment under IAA 2019, through a Parks Canada Agency Basic Impact Assessment pathway.
