Ominnik Marsh Trail Anchor System & Boardwalk Replacement

The Ominnik Marsh Trail was originally constructed in 1973. This signature trail is made up of two sections: an approximately 600m section of terrestrial trail and approximately 500m of floating boardwalk. Located near the townsite of Wasagaming, it is arguably the most used trail experience for visitors to Riding Mountain National Park. In the fall of 2024, large sections of the floating boardwalk were damaged during a severe wind event, leaving it damaged beyond repair, unsafe and unusable to visitors. Riding Mountain National Park plans to reconstruct the floating section according to these specific objectives: 1. Installation of an anchorage system for floating boardwalk segments within the marsh that is low impact to the environment, won't shift, and is adaptable for future adjustments, as required. 2. Procurement of approximately 400 m of floating boardwalk which will be fixed to the anchorage system that is low maintenance, accessible, easily repairable and blends into the marsh ecosystem. 3. Construction of one floating rest area and benches. 4. Construction of two rest areas at transitions between floating and terrestrial sections of trail that include benches. 5. Removal of approximately 487m of existing floating boardwalk and rest areas.
