T-149 & T-150 Air Canada Hangar, Petroleum Storage System Upgrades

May 29, 2025 – Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. must determine whether the proposed T-149 & T-150 Air Canada Hangar, Petroleum Storage systems upgrades project at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG), located in Winnipeg, Manitoba is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

Air Canada propose to undertake the T-149 Aircraft Hangar, Petroleum Storage system upgrades project at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. The project area is located on developed lands.

The project includes sawcut and removal of an existing asphalt surface on east exterior side of Fire Water Pump House Building, for installation of new concrete curbed product transfer area with catch basin equipped with an oil stop valve. With installation of a new drainage line tying into an existing manhole south of the Air Canada Hangar. An existing 33,200L aboveground fuel oil storage tank will receive new tank stairs, new tank top piping, remote fill spill containment box and overfill prevention alarm. Work includes electrical and mechanical system modifications with connects to the Air Canada Hangar building. The Product Transfer Area (PTA) upgrades are intended to meet the Federal Storage Tank Regulation, SOR/2008-197, Storage Tank Systems for Petroleum Products and Allied Petroleum Products Regulations, Section 15.
