Peterborough County - County Road 32, Hickey's Bridge Replacement

The County of Peterborough has proposed a complete replacement of Hickey's Bridge, a single span (9.1m) precast concrete slab structure with asphalt surface and rock timber crib abutments, located on County Road 32 (River Road). The existing structure is in fair condition with deterioration of ballast walls, concrete abutment slabs, and precast girder ends due to leaking expansion joints. The underside of the girders also exhibits isolated deterioration. The existing crib abutments show missing, rotting, and displaced timber members and loss of rock ballast within the cribs. Given the current condition of the bridge, the recommended work for the site is a complete bridge replacement under a full traffic closure with vehicular detouring.
