Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation Lagoon and Sewage Pumping Station

Existing lagoon is within 500 meters of the core area and school. Existing Lagoon is too small for the existing community sewage treatment. The Nation is excited to have this infrastructure relocated from within the core community.

A new HDPE DR 11 Sewage Force main to be installed in the ditch of the existing highway to the new lagoon;
New Storage 134,000 cubic meters storage cell for the facultative lagoon;
New 4.98 Ha Primary Cell for the Facultative Lagoon;
New Wet/Dry Style concrete Sewage Pumping Station.

During construction top soil will be stripped, the ground will be excavated and lagoon berms will be constructed around the excavation. The lagoon will be lined with a HDPE liner to prevent effluent from seeping into the ground. Concrete manholes between berms with valving will be installed for hydraulic transfer between cells. Weeping tile will be installed under the liner. 300mm of sand will be installed on top of the liner for puncture protection. Topsoil will be replaced on the berms and seeded. Excavation near the existing sewage pumping station will be conducted. New lift station will consist of cast in place concrete wet and dry wells. A small wood building will be placed atop of this structure to house controls, pumping and electrical equipment. Existing Lagoon will be decommissioned within the core area to Water Security Agency specifications outlined in EPB 503.

General construction waste, wood, plastics, and access materials. All will be disposed of off site properly as per provincial laws and regulations. Any access soils and earthworks will be used in the thickening of the lagoon berms.
