North Tower Expansion at Edmonton International Airport

June 18, 2025 –Edmonton Regional Airports Authority must decide whether the proposed North Tower Expansion Project located at the Edmonton International Airport is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online]. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The North Tower Expansion Project will expand the footprint of the building and redevelop all floors of the tower. This includes mechanical, electrical, architectural and structural work. The total expansion will add approximately 1,163 square meters of space to the North Tower.

July 23, 2025 – Edmonton Regional Airport Authority has determined that the proposed North Tower Expansion Project at the Edmonton International Airport is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part..
