Saddle Lake Cree Nation Pathway to Learning

Saddle Lake Cree Nation is proposing the development of a new pedestrian walkway, called "Pathway to Learning", a 2850 meter long 3 meter wide paved pathway that will connect the nearby 40 Acre Housing Development to the Saddle Lake Townsite. The pathway will start at the western boundary of 40 Acre moving east following the south side of Highway 652,  and continuing south along the west side of 50th St up to the SW 1 Road. Amenities along the pathway will include way-finding and culturally informative signage at key points along the path, as well as benches and bear-proof waste receptacles. Landscaping will be incorporated along the full length of the pathway, using non-fruit-bearing trees and smaller, shallow-rooted species to create a buffer from traffic and help discourage wildlife from entering the corridor.

Latest update

April 16, 2026– The public comment period on the project is closed. Indigenous Services Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
