Beaver Lake Cree Nation New High School and Resource Centre

The objective of the project is to provide a new Grade 10 to 12 high school, and to leverage the facility to support adult learners and community needs. A broader goal is to serve as an example of climate sustainability through achieving net-zero-carbon certification. The project is located on Beaver Lake Cree Nation, Band no. 131. The land selected for the new school site includes a cleared utility right of way and an historic logging area that has regrown. An existing paved and gravel parking area will be reused for the parking lot. The site area to be cleared is 5,428 m2. The site area to be excavated is 8,158 m2. The 1,900 m2 facility has an efficient and compact layout with highly flexible, multi-purposed and intensively utilized spaces. This means a smaller footprint with lower construction costs, lower embodied carbon and lower operation costs. The site development will include parking, a bus drop-off area, outdoor learning environments, and recreation space for the school and the community.
